The NukaKamma Talent Development Centre will be an innovative hospitality and tourism sector training provider, serving the needs of the large tourism sector in the Sundays River Valley and wider regional area, and helping local residents to gain skills that will assist them in finding employment – either within another business or through the establishment of their own businesses. The region is renowned for its many game reserves and safari lodges showcasing the ‘Big5’ and other African wildlife, as well as a host of other tourism establishments taking advantage of the unspoilt natural environment and scenic rural landscapes. The area, which is a malaria free area, includes many internationally renowned destinations such as the Addo Elephant National Park, Shamwari, Amakhala, and Pumba game reserves, which attract guests from around the world. While the region possesses many natural and cultural assets, there is currently no dedicated tourism skills training provider accessible to the local communities. As such, tourism and hospitality establishments in the region often struggle to find suitably skilled / qualified staff. People living in the numerous low-income townships in the area also do not have access to vocational training that could assist them in finding work or in starting their own business. In addition, people are not aware of the many economic opportunities, whether it be in tourism or agriculture, that exist as a result of all the assets that they already possess.
