Sohorab Rabbey is a contemporary Bangladeshi Artist based in Hamburg, London and Dhaka.Sohorab’s practice has long been rooted around the geopolitical, topographical, and ethnocultural transformations of the river delta region in South Asia, particularly the Bengal delta- where a delicate tidal basin, a mangrove ecosystem and rich local wisdom intermingle with each other. So, the situated knowledge and the urgencies around this complex hydrological terrain extremely vulnerable to climate precarity and Anthropocene, shaped his field of research and remained the primary source of artistic vocabulary. With a childlike curiosity and an idiosyncratic relationship with on-hand materials, his practice evolves through questioning the form of art and its ontology. The tension between context [hi(s)tory], memory, materials and their physical qualities performing in the space navigates his artistic transitions. Site-sensitive sculptures and installations often emerge. This way, the work strives for a cerebral and sensory experience of space. He is very interested in the question of scarcity and accessibility of natural resources, indigenous kinship, a symbiosis of human-non-human agencies and multi-species world-building through a prudent material play.
