貴志川線は、和歌山県和歌山市の和歌山駅から和歌山県紀の川市の貴志駅までを結ぶ鉄道路線です。駅長を三毛猫のウルトラ駅長「ニタマ」とマネージャー駅長「よんたま」が務め、個性的な電車「いちご電車」「たま電車」「うめ星電車」「たま電車ミュージアム号」が走るローカル線として、国内外から多くの観光客が訪れる貴志川線。JR 和歌山駅の 9 番ホームを出発し、長閑な田園風景を電車に揺られて 30 分、終点の貴志駅まで 14.3km を結びます。沿線には日前宮（日前神宮・國懸神宮）、竈山神社、伊太祁曽神社の 3 神社が鎮座し、その 3 社を参拝する「三社参り」の足として誕生したと言われています。貴志駅は猫の顔をモチーフに、屋根は伝統工法の檜皮葺を使用した世界にひとつの駅舎。駅長の「ニタマ」「よんたま」とともに、ローカル鉄道再生のシンボルで「名誉永久駅長」の「たま」が、和歌山電鐵と地方公共交通の守り神「たま大明神」として、ホームに建立された 「たま神社」から今も皆さまをお出迎えしています。駅舎内には、待合室を兼ねた「たまカフェ」と 「たまショップ」があり、’猫’をイメ―ジしたドリンクやジェラート、軽食などが 味わえるほか、人気の「たまグッズ」をお買求めいただけます。
